OUR MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN ST HELENS

Why Candour for Mental Health Care at Home?

Providing positive mental health support is not about asking lots of questions and writing things down on a clipboard. True mental health care is focused on spending face-to-face quality time with vulnerable adults who need connection, kindness and empathy.

During an initial home visit and friendly chat, our experienced staff will work with you to develop a person-centred plan of support – giving you control over the care you receive, while guided by experts who have your wellbeing at heart. Together, we’ll set achievable goals that are reflective of your aspirations, and support you towards living a more fulfilled life.

Mental health support services we offer

Everybody experiences mental health symptoms differently, so it’s essential that every client has a completely bespoke care plan built around exact level of support they need. Our home carers offer a comprehensive range of support options, giving you complete flexibility, including:

Many people with mental health conditions struggle to keep on top of their personal care. Showering, teeth cleaning, skin care and more can become a very low priority, forgotten or feel like an insurmountable task.

Our mental health carers will work with you to maintain a regular routine, while also having the skills to assist with additional personal care needs, such as bathing/toileting equipment and support where required.

We work with warmth, compassion and a deep understanding of how to manage these sensitive matters in the best way to suit the client’s needs.

Medication can play a key role in managing and improving mental health conditions, and our staff are all fully trained in the storage, administration and disposal of client medications. Detailed records will be kept in the client care plan, and we can work alongside your healthcare provider if you wish.

Self-care is hard when you’re suffering with poor mental health, and many conditions (or medications) can affect the appetite. However, regular eating patterns, good nutrition and appropriate fluid intake are all crucial for both physical and mental health.

Our mental health home carers can support you to maintain healthier eating habits in a variety of ways, including:

  • Encouraging a range of food groups by working with you to plan meals and snacks for the week ahead
  • Writing shopping lists and helping with grocery shops
  • Working in the kitchen together and sharing the companionship that comes with working in the kitchen and chatting in a relaxed environment
  • Helping with any aspects of the preparation the client may struggle with e.g. chopping, timings, following recipes
  • Keeping the client’s care plan up-to-date with clear details regarding allergies, intolerances, and preferences

Fresh linen and clean clothes feel and smell great, and shaking up the atmosphere with newly washed curtains, a polish and hoover can really help a house feel more like a home.

Maintaining control of your environment and making it a nice place to be can be a very empowering step towards recovery, so your mental health home carer will work with you to keep on top of the household and hygiene chores.

We encourage clients to participate in the washing, ironing, cleaning and tidying as much as possible, so they can feel the reward of taking control, while doing any tasks agreed in line with the agreed care plan.

Human connection, a caring ear, a soothing voice and a sounding board when life feels too much are absolutely essential to our mental wellbeing. Mental health conditions can render many sufferers isolated, lonely and feeling empty and unsupported.

Our mental health care at home services are very much focused on companionship – providing every client with a trusted person to build a relationship with, so they can share their highs and lows in a safe space. Whether you need to vent, cry, laugh or simply sit in comfortable silence, we’re here to meet your unique individual needs.

I would not be the person I am today without Candour Care and their staff – absolutely amazing, I couldn’t be without them now.

Great people. The family app is fantastic, it gives me a real-time view of the care calls with dad.
