Our Respite Care

Why Candour for Private Respite Care?

Caring for another person usually means that your own needs are at the bottom of the list. Without space to keep up with your own commitments and needs, feelings of resentment, guilt, stress, loneliness and exhaustion can build up, making providing support even harder.

By using our respite care services you will.

  • Have more time for you
  • Worry less and sleep more
  • Start to feel reenergised
  • Have the peace of mind that you have experts taking over

At home respite care services we offer

We take the time to listen to your care plan and your loved one’s needs, adapting our respite care services to suit your unique requirements.

Here are some of the ways we can support your loved one while you take a break:

You know your loved one’s personality and needs better than anyone, so we’ll take our cues from you, listening to your guidance in order to manage their personal care routine in the most sensitive and comfortable way for them.

We’re able to support them in any way required, including:

  • Eating, bathing (with equipment), dental hygiene, general grooming and hair care
  • Maintaining skin condition and integrity
  • Bowel movement regulation and incontinence care including emptying or changing urinary collecting devices, and supporting urinal, bedpan and/or commode use
  • Client comfort e.g. adjusting seating or lying positions etc.
  • Transfer to/from bed, wheelchair, toilet, chair etc.

We’ll follow your supplied medication plan, keeping detailed records for your peace of mind. Our home carers are fully trained in all aspects of medication management, and can be fully trusted with storage, collection, administration and disposal.

We can provide as much or as little support as needed, tailoring our respite care services to reflect your usual day-to-day tasks. With good nutrition and fluid intake so central to health and wellbeing, we’re here to help while you take some time off.

Our Meal preparation services include:

  • Planning meals and snacks together in line with the client’s wishes, while encouraging a balanced diet
  • Making shopping lists and assisting with the weekly groceries
  • Working together in the kitchen to prepare meals and enjoy the companionship this shared time brings
  • Taking care of any functions the client is unable to manage e.g. chopping, slicing, timings, lifting heavy items
  • PEG feeding and alternative route assistance

Depending on your loved one’s abilities/limitations, we’re happy to assist with regular household chores too, such as washing, drying, ironing and putting away clothes. We also help with larger laundry items including bedding and curtains if required, encouraging your loved one to interact with the process wherever possible.

Because we provide respite care in the home, this means that we have a responsibility to help ensure that it really feels like a home. We understand that those receiving care in their own space need to retain a sense of ownership and control. We’ll give them autonomy to do what they feel they are able, taking over the rest to keep things neat and tidy.

Here are some things our caregivers can help with where needed:

  • Vacuuming, dusting/polishing and mopping floors
  • Washing up and wiping down worktops after meals
  • After bathing/showering cleans – cleaning bathroom/wet rooms and drying surfaces that
could cause a slip hazard when wet
  • General tidying and cleaning

While your loved ones will surely understand that you need some respite, they’ll also miss you being around. With our holistic and person-centred approach, we believe that companionship is one of the most important aspects of our care services.

At the centre of any care support is a human who needs interaction, compassion, conversation and even sometimes just companionable silence, while the world washes over them. Our respite carers will step in and act as the sounding board and friend they need while you go and recharge, giving them the genuine sense of human connection and belonging that is so essential to our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Get Started

How Does Our Private Respite Care Work?

The first step is to have a friendly and informal chat, so you can gauge if we’re the right home care provider for you and your loved one. If you like what you hear, we’ll arrange a home visit at your convenience to discuss your requirements and to meet you and our potential new client.

We build our care plans around your own daily routines, keeping the transition of care as seamless as possible. Our at home respite care services cover the St Helens area, and can be engaged on a regular or ad hoc basis, according to your needs.

Our Reviews

I would not be the person I am today without Candour Care and their staff – absolutely amazing, I couldn’t be without them now.

Great people. The family app is fantastic, it gives me a real-time view of the care calls with dad.
