Why Candour for Private Respite Care?
Caring for another person usually means that your own needs are at the bottom of the list. Without space to keep up with your own commitments and needs, feelings of resentment, guilt, stress, loneliness and exhaustion can build up, making providing support even harder.
By using our respite care services you will.
- Have more time for you
- Worry less and sleep more
- Start to feel reenergised
- Have the peace of mind that you have experts taking over
At home respite care services we offer
We take the time to listen to your care plan and your loved one’s needs, adapting our respite care services to suit your unique requirements.
Here are some of the ways we can support your loved one while you take a break:
You know your loved one’s personality and needs better than anyone, so we’ll take our cues from you, listening to your guidance in order to manage their personal care routine in the most sensitive and comfortable way for them.
We’re able to support them in any way required, including:
- Eating, bathing (with equipment), dental hygiene, general grooming and hair care
- Maintaining skin condition and integrity
- Bowel movement regulation and incontinence care including emptying or changing urinary collecting devices, and supporting urinal, bedpan and/or commode use
- Client comfort e.g. adjusting seating or lying positions etc.
- Transfer to/from bed, wheelchair, toilet, chair etc.
We’ll follow your supplied medication plan, keeping detailed records for your peace of mind. Our home carers are fully trained in all aspects of medication management, and can be fully trusted with storage, collection, administration and disposal.

Laundry doesn’t just mean clothing: we can assist with all household laundry including bedding, blankets, curtains etc.
Although our at home care staff always encourage inclusion and independence, where this isn’t possible, we can take over washing, ironing and putting away duties, always according to the client’s preferences.
Housework can sometimes sit low on the care priority list, but with our person-centred approach, our dementia care services also include domestic support. Our aim is to encourage independence as much as possible, while delivering the appropriate level of support – ensuring a home environment where the client feels more settled and comfortable.
Our domestic service includes but is not limited to:
- Hoovering, dusting and mopping
- After meal kitchen cleans e.g. washing dishes, cleaning down worktops
- Ensuring bathroom is clean after shower support and floors are not left wet/slippery
- Maintaining general cleanliness of client’s home
Any further requests (within reason) around domestic support can be negotiated as part of the client’s care plan.
While your loved ones will surely understand that you need some respite, they’ll also miss you being around. With our holistic and person-centred approach, we believe that companionship is one of the most important aspects of our care services.
At the centre of any care support is a human who needs interaction, compassion, conversation and even sometimes just companionable silence, while the world washes over them. Our respite carers will step in and act as the sounding board and friend they need while you go and recharge, giving them the genuine sense of human connection and belonging that is so essential to our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
How Does Our Private Respite Care Work?
The first step is to have a friendly and informal chat, so you can gauge if we’re the right home care provider for you and your loved one. If you like what you hear, we’ll arrange a home visit at your convenience to discuss your requirements and to meet you and our potential new client.
We build our care plans around your own daily routines, keeping the transition of care as seamless as possible. Our at home respite care services cover the St Helens area, and can be engaged on a regular or ad hoc basis, according to your needs.
