From Heart to Home: My Lifelong Journey in Care with Candour

Hi, I’m Sue, one of the Business Support Officers at Candour Care. My journey in care began straight after leaving school, and it’s been a lifelong passion ever since. I completed care qualifications at college, which included various placements, and quickly discovered that working in the community was where my heart truly belonged.

My personal connection to care deepened in 1995 when my son contracted meningitis and was left with complex needs. This life-changing experience kept me closely involved with the care community, even while I was out of work. Once his health stabilised, I became a Teaching Assistant at a mainstream secondary school, supporting children with additional needs—a role I found incredibly rewarding and held for 13 years.

Four years ago, I felt a strong pull to return to my roots in community care. I began working in Warrington as a Community Carer, a role I thoroughly enjoyed, although the travel proved challenging. That’s when I discovered Candour Care. From the moment I met Paul and Ashley during my interview, I knew I’d found something special. I began working in the community on Christmas Eve and later transitioned into the office as a Business Support Officer.

I absolutely love my job—no two days are the same, and I feel truly valued. Candour Care is more than just a workplace; it’s a dedicated team that cares deeply about both its staff and service users.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dogs, horse riding, and spending quality time with family and friends. I’m a proud mum of two children and three stepchildren, and family means everything to me.
